The Celts never missed an opportunity to throw a dash of style into anything they created. Yeah, it wasn’t easy stacking hundreds of tons of stones on top of other stones in a perfect circle to make the world’s largest Pez Dispenser (or whatever that Stonehenge thing is used for), but the Celts did it anyway. In that same vein, sure, it’s hard to make semi-circular guards on a sword. But it was a staple of Celtic Weaponsmithing and was one of the many things that really set their swords apart from everyone else’s.

This Celtic medieval sword is a perfect example of this type of guard design. Grab one now and show the world that your warrior spirit lives inside an artist’s body

When Strongblade refers to a "Battle Sword," we are referring to most European medieval swords with blades longer than 35” or so. These type of swords included hand-and-a-half swords (sometimes refered to as Bastard Swords) and the big two-handed swords. Real battle swords had blades well in excess of this, and, in fact, a 35" sword was considered a bit skimpy for fighting skirmishes. But for home use and light sparring, a 36" blade is fairly long.
