Product Description
They Maya civilization's capacity for creating astounding works of art and architecture was only rivaled by their terrifying capacity for violence. In mathematics, they were the first civilization to come up with the concept of the zero. In architecture, they built pyramids as majestic as those in egypt. And in religion, wel ... they cut the hearts out of live human beings with knives of sharpened stone to honor the gods above. Quite a complex civilization.
Mel Gibson's movie Apocalypto gives a fair accounting of this two-sided civilization. Now you too, with the Mayan Firebird pendant, can capture this duality of beauty and savagery.
The pendant is hand crafted in England by the master smiths at Alchemy Gothic. Made from the highest quality enameled pewter, this pendant is a blare of color and individuality. It dangles elegantly on a set of waxed thongs, doubled over and finished with ornate pewter clasps. It features the Mayan Firebird, most likely a representation of Kinich Ahau, the sun god of the Mayans, who was often represented as a fiery bird or jaguar. Like the Mayans themselves, Kinich Ahau had two sides to him. The fiery side was the Sun God side, but he was also known as the god of poetry and writing.
