Captain Henry Morgan's Blunderbuss Flintlock, Brass

The pirate/privateer Henry Morgan -- known affectionately by bar-goers everywhere as Cap'n Morgan was no stranger to the blunderbuss. He executed hundreds of raids and was victorious over thousands of opponents; No doubt his flintlocks left their marks on more men than history can ever account for.

This wide-mouthed blunderbuss is a replica of the preferred weapon of pirates. Compact and easily hidden, the weapon was the model of powerful efficiency. Although the wide mouth made accuracy a little dicey, it allowed the pirate to load the gun quickly and easily, and, more importantly, allowed multiple lead balls to be shot with one pull of the trigger. Everyone knows that you have to have lead balls to be a successful pirate. And the more lead balls, the better " I think"

Anyway, this weapon is just the thing for a pirate costume. Emblazoned across the oversized barrel is the name of perhaps the most feared pirate in the Caribbean: Captain Henry John Morgan. A stylish coat of arms beneath his name bears the sinister skull and crossbones known by all sailors and moviegoers as the sign of a pirate.

The pistol is about as cool looking as you can make a pirate weapon. The designs are masterful, and the weapon itself is without flaw. It was crafted by the master weapon makers in Spain and it shows. Now that I mention it, though, it's a bit ironic that the Spaniards made this reproduction, since Spain was the country that most suffered because of Captain Morgan's long and vicious career as a pirate. Ironic, but not surprising, though, as the Spanish are arguably the best reproduction artists in the world.

The locks on this weapon are made from a weathered steel and ornately engraved. The British Crown and the "BP" of the master craftsmen of Birmingham, England, are stamped on the base plate of this flintlock for historical authenticity (Morgan did his dirty work for the government of England, which ruled Jamaica).

A simulated piece of 'flint' is clamped in the vice of the cock (for some reason, that sounds extremely distrubing to me ...) and a ramrod is set into the pistol's stock, below the barrel.

The most impressive part of this weapon is that barrel. It's immense almost to a cartoon level, but I suppose it wouldn't have been so funny when it was pointed at you. In fact, the sheer size of the barrel gives the gun its lethal look. A look much more deadly than any other flintlock. Truly this is a phenomenal weapon that looks as frightening as the man who once wielded it was.
