Tinker Pierce Battle-Ready Norman Sword

Marquenching® or martempering of steel consists of quenching the steel in hot oil at 150-175°C, and holding it in the quenching medium until the temperature of the workpiece is essentially uniform and equal to the temperature of the oil. This minimizes or eliminates distortion of the workpiece which occurs from unequal transformation rates normally found in conventional quenching.

Q. What do you get when you mix the Vikings and the French?
A. England.

There you have it. Quite possibly the geekiest historical joke ever told. The correct answer is, of course, the Normans. And the Normans did, of course, conquer England. And what type of sword do you think the Normans used to conquer England? Do you like my clever segue?

The Tinker Pierce Norman sword is one of the finest swords that we sell. And when we say fine, we mean, Megan Fox fine. It's that good looking. But it's more than just a hot actress with a drop-dead body, sultry eyes, full, pouty lips, perfect, luscious skin ...

... I'll be in my bunk.

Hello, I am Torguld. I have been chosen to finish product description. This weapon is fine example of Viking sword-make. I, Torguld, approve of this pointy metal. Bring back to my village in Norway to ...

Okay. I'm back. mental note, no more talking about Megan Fox during product descriptions.

The Tinker Pierce Norman Sword is hand-forged, tempered and marquenched. The 31-inch blade is made from 5160 Spring Steel and hardened to more than 50 Rockwell. The tang is drawn back a bit, to 30 Rockwell, which gives the weapon a fierce speed and flexibility.

It features a beautiful, straight cruciform guard and what is lovingly referred to as a Norman Brazil-nut pommel. The blade is harmonically balanced for perfect slashing. And the weight, at 2lbs 8oz is perfect. Tinker Pierce has captured the essence of Norman swords in this fine piece of artwork.

The Tinker Pierce Norman Sword is available in three versions, the sharp version, razor-honed for cutting practice, and the blunt version, thick-edged and rounded for sparring and theatrical work. All versions are fully customizable; the blades, grips and even guards can be replaced. All three blades have almost identical weights and balance. And all versions come with a leather-wrapped wood scabbard.

So lay your hands on a sword that has such beautiful lines, such gorgeous curves, such a shimmering glow and such fine, fine hardware...

I'll be in my bunk.

About Tinker Pierce Swords:
Michael "Tinker" Pierce is one of the most renowned swordmakers in the world today. He has written numerous books on swords and swordmaking and his custom swords are coveted world-wide. He is, to put it another way, The Man.

We've been able to acquire a new line of fully-functional European swords designed by Tinker Pierce. Each weapon is forged under his guidance and supervision. Each weapon is built in much the same way as his custom pieces and must meet his stringent specifications. We actually have to fight him and his workers for some of these swords. That's how attached to them they become. It sucks because we usually lose two or three of our own employees every time they go over there. But we will stop at nothing to get you the best sword we can.

Tinker has developed these matching longswords to satisfy the need of every Western Martial Arts practitioner and sword enthusiast. They are available in two versions: a sharp version, made for cutting, and a blunted version for theatrical sparring and martial arts training. The swords meet Tinker's exacting quality requirements and are built in much the same way as his custom pieces. Each blade is forged from 5160 Spring Steel, Marquenched to the desired hardness of 50-53 Hrc while the tang is drawn back to the low 30s Hrc. The very end of the tang is threaded to fit an allen nut recessed into the pommel which allows for dimantling of the hilt assembly for inspection or to exchange blades if needed, or to customize the sword. he grips are cord wrapped and leather covered wood and tapered for a comfortable grip. Each sword is supplied with a leather covered wood scabbard with metal throat and chape.

The quality that you get from these swords is unheard of at these prices. If you've been looking for a high-end sword but could not afford one before, we highly recommend these battle-ready, beautifully balanced and gorgeous swords. Please, don't make our employees have died in vain.

When Strongblade refers to a "Battle Sword," we are referring to most European medieval swords with blades longer than 35” or so. These type of swords included hand-and-a-half swords (sometimes refered to as Bastard Swords) and the big two-handed swords. Real battle swords had blades well in excess of this, and, in fact, a 35" sword was considered a bit skimpy for fighting skirmishes. But for home use and light sparring, a 36" blade is fairly long.
