The Freeborn aptitude for ingenuity strikes again with this ringhilted shortsword.

The sword is a beautiful combination of stealth, protection and offensive capabilities. The focal point of the weapon is, of course, the ornate, twisted rings that act as the guards. These rings, though not rigid in any way, do provide some decent hand protection. But they can also be a formidable part of your offensive, particulalry against thrusting weapons. If you can master the art of capturing an opponenets blade in the rings you can get that half-second advantage in the riposte, or tyr to hold the blade and use your offhand to strike at the defenseless opponent. This is not an easy move by any means, but if you work on it, it could one day save your character's life.

The sword is unique and looks great. It's perfect for stealthy or swashbuckling characters, or exotic mercenary types. The grip is wrapped in suedette for great traction and comfort, and the pommel is slightly oversized, which balances the sword excellently. Not that it needs it, though, this sword is very light and very fast.

The flintlock pistol was the greatest advance in pirating since the wooden leg. The concept was fairly simple: gunpowder was stuffed into the barrel. A lead ball, usually wrapped in some sort of fabric, was stuffed in. A hammer was then pulled back half-way and left that way until the gun was ready to fire. The pistol technically was not meant to fire in this position, although sometimes they were known to go off half-cocked (and yes, that is the origin of that expression). When the gun was ready to be fired, the hammer was pulled back all the way and the trigger was squeezed.
