About Darth Maul's FX Lightsaber
Ever since the first of the new-wave FX lightsabers hit the streets, everyone has been asking the same question:
"What the hell is wrong with Michael Jackson?"
Another popular question in that time period is, "When the Heck is Master Replicas going to make Darth Maul's lightsaber?"
Well, that question has been answered (the second question, anyway). Darth Maul's FX lightsaber is finally here. The coolest weapon in Star Wars -- weilded by arguably the coolest character in the first three movies -- has finally arrived.
There is no doubt that, of all the FX lightsabers, this will go down in history as the greatest. It comes out of the box as two battle-damaged single-bladed lightsabers that can be used Musashi-style (or, Jar'Kai-Style, to use the Star Wars vernacular), one in each hand. The two lightsabers can then be joined together to form a single, menacing, double-bladed lightsaber more than 7 feet long!
The blades on these, like the blades of the previous FX lightsabers, are made from a tough polycarbonate that can take a good bit of banging around. The hilt(s) is made from a very solid chromed aluminum, with intricate detailing that adeptly reproduces the original's. It is stylish, battle-scarred and fun to hold. The lightsaber comes with a display stand as well,for the few times you won't be holding this weapon.
Like the other FX lightsabers, this is an amazingly fun prop to use. The blades leave long tracers of color as you whirl them through a dimmed room, and the digitally recorded sound effects from the movie make it seem as if you're actually using a lightsaber. The double-bladed style of this saber allows you to use entirely different sets of movements and attacks, much as Darth Maul used in The Phantom Menace.
The Darth Maul FX Lightsaber features the same power-up and power-down sound effects as the other FX Lightsabers, multiplied by two. It also has similar clashing sound effects when you strike something with the blades, and similar idle humming when you're not moving it.
