This beautiful sword is a hand-crafted reproduction of a Scottish two-handed Claymore battle sword. It's a bit shorter than a standard Claymore would have been, which makes it a little easier to handle and fits most walls a little more easily.

The blade on this behemoth is made from 42 inches of tough 18-gauge high-carbon steel. The fittings are brass and both the hilt and the extended ricasso are covered in rugged leather. Swings very easily for such a large sword, particularly when you move your upper hand onto the ricasso. The blade on this weapon is battle ready, but be careful with the ricasso as the leather could be damaged if hit directly.

There are several different styles of claymores. This is an early style, with straight crosses ending in thickened nubs and a leather-wrapped ricasso. The later version of this weapon features downward angled crosses ending with clover-liked loops called quatrefoils.

When Strongblade refers to a "Battle Sword," we are referring to most European medieval swords with blades longer than 35” or so. These type of swords included hand-and-a-half swords (sometimes refered to as Bastard Swords) and the big two-handed swords. Real battle swords had blades well in excess of this, and, in fact, a 35" sword was considered a bit skimpy for fighting skirmishes. But for home use and light sparring, a 36" blade is fairly long.
