High-Carbon Steel Roman Gladius with Customizable Pommel Cap

Okay, this gladius is a fantastic product for several reasons. First of all, it's a very good historical reproduction of a Roman Gladius. Special care has been taken to preserve its authenticity, like the brass lock-plate under the guard, the lack of any sort of ricasso (unsharpened area near the guard) on the blade, and the relatively narrow blade size. We always strive to make our swords as historically accurate as possible, but these have small touches that we've added to make them that much closer to the real thing.

Second, we've added an extended tang on these that acctually justs through the pommel. This allows us to add a pommel cap on top to give the gladius a more finished look When we were deciding what to put on top, we thought "Hey, why not let the customer decide what he or she wants on the pommel?" So, we did. More on that below, so read carefully.

This gladius has a beautiful narrow blade made from our standard high-carbon steel. The hand-forged blade has the classic gladius "V" tip and, as mentioned above, it has no ricasso, as it should be. The pommel and Guard are made from a polished hardwood and the wood grip is wrapped with black leather. Just to repeat ourselves, we added a brass lock-plate beneath the guard for added stability and historical accuracy.

The wooden sheath on these is wrapped in a red leather and bears two brass support strips. These strips hold brass belt loops that can be used to secure the gladius to a belt or baldric.

Custom Pommel Caps
Take your pick of any of the pommel caps that we have pictured below. Most of them are at no charge. There are, however, a few specialized, large caps that give the sword a much more ornamental look; we have to charge a little for those because of their cost to us, but it might be something interesting for some customers. If you want extra pommel caps, we can included them for $2 or $5 depending on the style (the large ones being $5, the small ones $2). So, take your pick and give your gladius a custom finish. To select your cap, just let us know which you want in the "Order Comments" section of our checkout process. If you don't mention anything, we'll send the antiqued cylinder cap as default.
