When your living depends finding enemy ships, you had best carry a good telescope with you. And the easier it is to carry, the better. This pocket telescope is identical in design to ones carried by officers of both naval and pirate ships in the 1700s. Called a "pocket telescope" these babies were one of the most important pieces of equipment on a ship. They retracted to an extremely small and portable size, yet were extendable enough to provide a decent magnification.

This wonderful hand-made telescope reproduction is fully functional. It has seven segments that stretch out to a very efficient 16 1/2 inches. It compresses to an amazxingly small 5 3/4 inches, making it perfect for storing in pockets, pouches or really, really big mouths.

The scope is hand-made from polished brass, as the originals would have been. The sleeves on the fifth and seventh segments are made from a rugged, double stitched leather and provide an excellent grip. The lenses are made from glass and actually work, giving the telescope a magnification somewhere around 20X.

This is a stunning piece of nautical history, perfect for adding that authentic touch to costumes, or for giving the perfect extra touch to any room.

Although the term rapier has become synonymous with any narrow-bladed sword (particularly those with fancy hilts), the term rapier actually applied to only a select few types of swords. Rapiers were narrow (usually one and a quarter inches wide), quite long, fairly heavy, and usually had only a slight edge on them. The extremely long length of the rapiers made them a bit heavy and cumbersome, not at all the Errol Flynn or Zorro-type small-swords that most people think of.
