There is no better symbol for the medieval knight than that of the crusader. We could go on into a discourse about the ethics, politics and morals of the crusades themselves, but many much brighter minds have covered that topic quite well (well, we sort of did go into it in the history of the crusades on the 'History' tab, but only in a Strongblade sort of way). It still stands that the crusader has been romanticized throughout literature and the Silver Screen many times over, most recently with the movie "Kingdom of Heaven" starring perennial sword swinger Orlando Bloom. This crusader letter opener represents the honor, dignity and strength of the medieval knight.

When Strongblade refers to a "Battle Sword," we are referring to most European medieval swords with blades longer than 35” or so. These type of swords included hand-and-a-half swords (sometimes refered to as Bastard Swords) and the big two-handed swords. Real battle swords had blades well in excess of this, and, in fact, a 35" sword was considered a bit skimpy for fighting skirmishes. But for home use and light sparring, a 36" blade is fairly long.
