The shield was a critical part in Viking battle strategy. Vikings were known for employing shield walls in large-scale combat, much like the greeks. (for a brief period of time, they were also known for their impressive "shield Pyramids" made by standing on one another's back. These were inspirational and visually stunning, but proved disastrous in combat, and were quickly discontinued).

These decorative Viking shields are typical of the style used until the 11th century or so. At this point, let me mention that these are decorative shields, meant for display or costume use, or really large, unbelievably cool coasters. They are not battle ready. That said, they truly are fantastic works of art.

Viking shields were typically 30 inches to 36 inches in diameter. These are fairly close to accurate size and feature a very historically accurate design; The wooden grip on the back is in the center of the shield, protected by a metal boss on the front. Designs across these shields are in the spirit of actual designs from that time period.

So, whether you're looking to decorate a room in typical Norse style or need an accessory for your Viking garb, these shields should fit the bill. Well priced, gorgeous and brilliantly constructed in Spain.

The Japanese katana was often worn paired with another smaller sword or dagger. The shorter sword, called a wazashi (also known alternately as Wakizashi and, occasionally, Fred) measured twelve to twenty-four inches in length. The dagger, a tanto measured six to twelve inches in length. Tonto, from the Lone Ranger, has nothing to do with Asian weapons, but for the record, he was 67 inches long. Strongblade sells lots of katanas. Have a look at our samurai swords.
