The Normans were one of the most prolific European conquerors in history. They had the ferocity of Vikings, The veracity of Englishmen, and the penchant for baguettes of the French.
This helmet was typical of the style worn by Norman warriors. The steel nose piece and the chain mail "Aventail" are direct descendants of Viking helmets; many historical pieces of artwork show Viking helmets with this style of nose piece and an often removable "Aventail" or chain-mail curtain that protects the back of the neck.
The Aventail on this particular helmet is not removable, but is a typical 1 into 4 European pattern made from a very durable high carbon steel and is secured snugly to the inside of the helmet. The steel nose piece extends from high up on the crest of the helmet, giving it additional strength and security.
The helmet itself is made from 18-gauge high carbon steel plates and features a decorative crown pattern around the base that adds further strength to the metal.
This helmet is actual size, and can be worn with a helmet liner (not included: can be made fairly easily). Otherwise, it comes with a high quality display stand made of polished wood.
