I can just hear you out there now. Yes, it's a compass, and yes, it plays a major part of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

You see, this is no ordinary compass. In the movie, Captain Jack Sparrow uses this mystical -- nay, outright magical -- compass in his quest to find the Dead Man's Chest. When the compass is held by someone in the movie, the needle points in the direction of that person's greatest desire. The Master Replicas reproduction of Jack Sparrow's Compass is no different; when held, it points to your heart's greatest desire.

This abolutely works. We tried it out. We held the compass and watched the needle turn to point to one of our greatest desires. it was truly amazing. Oh, sure, we happened to be backstage at the Victoria's Secret fashion show, surrounded on all sides by lingerie models, but I'm sure it would have worked anywhere else, too.

In all seriousness, the compass does come with a mechanism that causes the needle to turn towards "your heart's desire." It's possible that it could just turn in a random direction, but how would you know if you don't follow it? If nothing else, it's a great tool for non-assertive couples trying to decide where to go for dinner.

The compass is smartly built of simulated ebony wood, with brass-colored needles and a bright, colorful compass rose. A latching cover has a blue star map inscribed on it to help with celestial navigation and to give a more sophisticated look to this fabulous nautical device.

The compass comes with a masterfully crafted mounting frame that matches the ones from Captain Jack Sparrow's Sword and Flintlock Pistol. It's quite a frame, antiqued and carved to give it the appropriate look of the period. The frame comes with a numbered plaque (indicating which of the only 2500 of these compasses you purchased) and a certificate of authenticity.
