The Swords of the Ancients series has enthralled us for years now. Each of these swords is a brilliant example of fantasy design and execution (maybe we should use a different word there, eh?). And while we’re in the double digits of this collection, sometimes it’s nice to revisit the past. In that vein, we present the second sword in the Swords of the Ancient collection: The Sword of Vaelen.
The sword is typical of the now-famous Kit Rae style, although it is anything but typical. With strong Celtic and Gothic influences, this blade is a marvel of creativity. Dagged gaurds slope downward malevolently, Celtic scrollwork embossed across their entire surface. A black, spiral fluted grip is topped by a gilded and crown-shaped pommel that bears a decorated, acorn-style finial. The blade is angular and tapered, with visible cutouts at the forte for additional style. The sword is 36” in length, with a false-edged, 27” stainless steel blade (420 J).
Truly a masterful sword. It comes with an art print by Kit Rae himself (Vaelen Confronts Darkness). These swords are not being made by United Cutlery anymore, so once they’re gone, they’re gone.
