There is something innately sexy about this sword. The gentle, swelling curves of the weapon. The flowing Elven script along the blade. The subdued, subtle earth tones mixed with the passionate golds and yellows. The graceful screenprinted stand that the sword comes with, and the naked picture of Live Tyler that I have sitting behind it. I guess I just can’t come up with one sole reason why I love looking at this sword.
The sword, which was wielded by Liv Tyler in the Lord of the Rings movies, was designed by the creative staff at WETA (the New Zealand-based company who made all of the props for the movies). And I must say, they did a masterful job. You can tell how good a job they did by how many cheap, flimsy knockoffs there are of this sword. And it’s not just on the market. It also seems to have influenced the movie industry as well. Every female character in any fantasy movie these days seems to have a Hadhafang knockoff in her hands. If those female actors want to hold something interesting, I’ll let them weild my “Hadhafang” if you know… (Editor’s Note: This comment and the one after it have been censored. Apologies).
This reproduction of the actual Hadhafang has been brilliantly crafted by the folks at United Cutlery. It features a killer 420 J tempered stainless steel blade with a wicked curve and several thorny projections on each side. The wood grip is lovingly painted with golden vine patterns and capped with a beautiful, gold-toned, polished metal pommel. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and a beautiful display stand.
The weapon, reportedly meant to be used on horseback, is light and feels comfortable in the hand. Although it was wielded by Arwen in the movies, the backstory on this sword says that it was used by Elrond before her (her father. Not Stephen Tyler, her other father), so it can be used by male or female swordsme… eh… swordspeople.
